at the beginning of the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting, Mr. Marish Sengiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and representatives from the other 6 BIMSTEC member countries, including Than Shwe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, stood in silence for 1 minute to mourn the victims of the major earthquake on 28 April. Prior to the opening of the summit, representatives from the seven BIMSTEC countries signed a maritime transport cooperation agreement, which aims to enhance international maritime connectivity.
